"Truth gains more even by the errors of one who, with due study and preparation, thinks for himself, than by the true opinions of those who only hold them because they do not suffer themselves to think. Not that it is solely, or chiefly, to form great thinkers, that freedom of thinking is required. On the contrary, it is as much and even more indispensable to enable average human beings to attain the mental stature which they are capable of. That so few now dare to be eccentric marks the chief danger of the time."<br />-John Stuart Mill

So four of the five classes I signed up for this semester had a warning in the course catalog that they would be reading and writing intensive. Undeterred I choose, like a dumbass, to enroll in them anyway, it is the second week of class and I have spent the past three hours in the library reading the first 150 pages out of the 430 pages I have assigned to read for Wednesday's classes. I had to buy over eight-thousand pages worth of textbooks for my measly 15 hours of class this semester. The thought of an easy course load during football season is flying out the window.

I am formulating the all-american-play in my head,... I wish I could as easily transition the thoughts to paper. In my play the underlying theme would be redirecting oneself systematically and deliberately. My father embodies it every time he tacks a sailboat I am beginning to realize how acutely my psyche unconsciously helps me to re-triangulate every so often. Freedom doesn't exist in the ability to pick a course and stick with it nor does it exist to those who never chart a path preferring rather to drift aimlessly. Life, Love, Ambition, the times I have felt truly alive have been the climactic shifts in inertia when one redirects his course. The boom comes swinging heavily across the boat, danger and pain cohort together, and sometimes you or someone you love is hurt by the shift, but progress marches on with the wind to her back.
